Kanatago is a virtual adventure app. We connect to your phone's step counter (via Apple Health) and use your real-world steps to move you along virtual routes, like walking across Iceland or trekking through National Parks, right from your neighborhood.
Do I need to walk the actual route physically?
No! That's the magic. You walk wherever you are, your local park, your commute, or a treadmill. We take those steps and apply them to the virtual map, so you can explore distant lands without leaving your hometown.
How does the Team Mode work?
In Team Mode, you can invite friends to join a "Co-op" squad. Everyone's steps contribute to a single team total, and you can compete against other teams.
Does the app track my GPS location?
We respect your privacy. We primarily use step count data. We only ask for location permissions to show your current position on the map when no route is selected. We do not store your GPS history on our servers.
Can I use my Apple Watch or Fitbit?
On iOS, we integrate with Apple Health. If your wearable syncs steps to Apple Health, Kanatago will count them!
Do I need to create an account to use the app?
No. You can start a "Local Route" instantly without signing up. Your progress will be saved directly to your phone. However, if you delete the app, you lose your local data. To backup your progress and access social features, we recommend creating a free account.
Can I share a route if I'm not logged in?
No. To generate a shareable link or invite friends to your route, the route needs to be saved to our cloud servers. This requires you to be logged in. Once you log in, your local route will be synced to your profile and can be shared.
Is the app free to use?
Yes, you can download and start a local route for free. We offer paid subscriptions that unlocks having multiple routes.
